Pakistan, Iran border meeting underway

QUETTA: Pakistani and Iranian officials holding a meeting in Quetta to discuss the border issues in context of recent abduction of Iranian border guards, ARY News reported on Wednesday. 

The officials are expected to discuss the security and other related issues in the border meeting.

Chief Secretary of Balochistan Babar Yaqub Fateh Muhammad leading Pakistani delegation in the meeting of Pak-Iran Joint Border Commission.

The delegation of Iran is headed by Deputy Governor of Sistan-Balochistan province Agha Ali Mir Shikari. 

A representative of the Interior Ministry Akhtar Jan Wazir and deputy commissioners of Pakistan's districts bordering Iran are also attending the meeting.  

Pakistan's Foreign Office yesterday in a statement took exception of a statement of Iranian Interior Minister, which said Iranian troops will be sent in Pakistan to secure five missing border guards kidnapped by miscreants. 

The foreign office spokesperson said that the Iranian forces have no right to violate international laws and enter into Pakistani territory.

Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli in a statement warned to send the troops into Pakistani territory to secure the release of five of its abducted border guards. 

“If Pakistan doesn’t take the needed steps to fight against the terrorist groups, we will send our forces onto Pakistani soil. We will not wait for this country,” Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli was quoted as saying.

Iranian media reports said that the guards were abducted on Feb 6 in the Iranian province of Sistan-Balochistan by militants who allegedly took them across the border to Pakistan.
