Pakistan lodges strong protest with Indian HC over LoC firing

ISLAMABAD: Indian Deputy High Commissioner J P Singh was summoned to the Foreign Office in Islamabad on Monday and a strong protest was lodged with him over the recent Indian firing at the Line of Control (LoC).

The Foreign Office said the deliberate targeting of civilians on the part of Indian troops was indeed condemnable and contrary to human dignity and international human rights and humanitarian laws.

Pakistan urged the Indian side to respect the 2003 Ceasefire agreement, investigate the incidents of ceasefire violations and instruct the Indian forces to respect the ceasefire in letter and spirit for peace at the LoC.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has expressed disappointment over Indian behavior for not allowing Sikh Yatrees to visit their religious site in Hassan Abdal.

Foreign Office spokesman Nafees Zakaria in a statement said that 100 Sikh Yatrees had been issued visas but Indian authorities stopped most of them at Atari.
