Pakistan lost 3775 lives in 423 US drone attacks in 13 years: report

The United States carried out 423 drone attacks in the past 13 years due to which 3,775 people were killed, ARY News said in a report on Friday. Approximately 400 children, under the age of 15 years, also fell victim to the attack.

The first drone attack in Pakistan was carried out in Wana, the main town of South Waziristan tribal region, on 18th June, 2004 resulting in death of a man Naik Mohammad Wazir and his children. Three attacks took place in 2005 which reportedly killed 15 people whereas 97 people lost their lives in two strikes in 2006.

In 2007, 63 people lost their lives in four attacks while United States sources stated that 80 people were killed when a seminary of Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri was bombed. Thirty-six drone attacks occurred in 2008 in which 358 people were reported dead. In 2009, 595 people were killed in 54 drone strikes in the country.

The largest number of death toll was in 2010 when 986 people were killed in 122 attacks. In year 2011, 695 people died in 73 drone attacks in the country, whereas 409 people lost their lives in the strikes which took place in 2012. In 2013, 293 people were killed.

In 2014, the US drones carried out 22 attacks and killed 171 people while 78 people were killed in 2015. Two drone attacks have taken place in 2016 in which eight people, including ex-Taliban supremo Mullah Akhtar Mansour, have been killed.
