Pakistan observes Constitution Day today

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan observing its Constitution Day today. Present Constitution of the country has reached to its 44th year, which was passed on April 10 in 1973.

Pakistan’s Senate, in collaboration with the four federating units is celebrating the Constitution Day, state radio said in a report.

This year’s theme of commemoration is “Enhancement of Role and Powers of Senate of Pakistan; to protect the rights of the Federating Units”.

The Constitution of Pakistan was unanimously passed by the National Assembly on 10th April 1973 during the first government of Pakistan People’s Party led by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. The constitution received the Presidential assent on 12th April, 1973.

As part of the Constitution Day celebrations, a reception will be held at Parliament House in Islamabad today.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in a message on the constitution day while felicitating the nation said that the day highlights the efforts made to pass a constitution of the country.

“It is a day to pay tribute to the sacrifices of the people for democracy,” the prime minister said in his statement.

Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani has said that the Constitution of the country provides equal opportunities to all the provinces and communities for propagation of their culture.

He was addressing a special ceremony held in connection with the Constitution Day in Islamabad.

Raza Rabbani said all the provinces are interconnected through strong bonds of culture and we all have to work together to strengthen our social and cultural values.
