Pakistan pledges complete support for democracy in Turkey

Pakistan stands united with Turkey and its nation during the current time of political crisis, said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in a statement while condemning the coup.

“We value the strong and historical relationship with Turkey and its government,” said the premier.

The prime minister also applauded Turkish nation’s determination when it was highly needed and recalled how they have always supported Pakistan.

Responding to the situation in Turkey following the coup attempt, the premier said, “Pakistan fully supports the Turkish president, his elected government and institutions.”

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi also telephoned Turkish Foreign Minister and discussed the latest situation in Turkey, according to a foreign office spokesperson.

Fatemi reiterated Pakistan’s government will, to remain with the democratically elected government of Turkey, the spokesperson added.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif also reacted on the turmoil in Turkey through a tweet in which he professed that martial law is no law and prayed for the victory of Turkey and its nation.

 

 

An army group in Turkey announced yesterday that it has taken over the country. However, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told Turkish people on Saturday that his government is in charge after a failed coup attempt brought a night of explosions, air battles and gunfire across the capital that left dozens dead.
