Pakistan summons Indian envoy to protest ceasefire violations on LoC

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office, after Indian firing along the Line of Control (LoC), on Wednesday summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner and lodged a strong protest over unprovoked ceasefire violations.

Two women, identified as Sumaira Younis and Maryam, were martyred, while five others, including Muhammed Shakeel, Muhammed Anwar Baig, Muneer Ahmed, Zeeshan, Rafeeque Ahmed, and Nasreen were injured when Indian troops resorted to unprovoked firing from across the border on Tuesday.

Indian troops resorted to unprovoked firing with artillery, heavy mortars and automatic weapons along LoC targeting innocent civil population of villages Naukot and Qaiser Kot in Lipa Valley, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

Sources said that the Foreign Office lodged a strong protest over the latest incident of ceasefire violation and told Indian diplomat that Indian troops have continued to indulge in ceasefire violations, despite calls for restraint.

In 2017 till to date, Indian forces have carried out more than 870 ceasefire violations along the Line of Control and the Working Boundary resulting in the martyrdom of over 40 innocent civilians and injuries to 149 people.

The FO urged New Delhi to respect the 2003 Ceasefire arrangement. It also asked the Indian side to investigate and halt the incidents of ceasefire violations to maintain peace on the LoC.
