NEW YORK: Pakistan has become the 104th country in the world to ratify the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

According to Radio Pakistan, the country ratified the pact during a ceremony at the headquarters of the United Nations (UN) in New York.

The instrument of ratification, signed by the President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain, was submitted by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi.

It should be noted that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif headed a delegation to Paris in December 2015 where Pakistan joined the international consensus against climate change.

This ratification by Pakistan also corresponds with the ongoing Marrakesh Climate Change Conference, which was formed to take important decisions for the comprehensive implementation of the Paris Agreement.
