Pakistan wants elimination of TTP sanctuaries on Afghan soil

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office of Pakistan on Thursday stressed the need for eliminating the sanctuaries of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militants within Afghanistan.
Foreign Office Spokesman Dr Muhammad Faisal said the United States and Nato troops stationed in the war-torn country would have take effective measures to remove the reservations of Islamabad with regard to TTP sanctuaries in Afghanistan.
He said Pakistan had time and again asked the US to provide intelligence-based information about presence of militants on its soil.
Dr Faisal said Islamabad and Washington have lately engaged in crucial bilateral talks to find common ground to improve the strained ties.
He termed National Security Adviser (NSA) Nasser Janjua’s recent visit to Kabul a significant progress towards removing the strains in the ties between two neighboring countries.
He reiterated that Pakistan wanted swift and respectful repatriation of Afghan refugees.
Expressing concern over frequent ceasefire violations on the Line of Control (LoC) and Working Boundary, he said Indian forces violated the ceasefire on 690 occasions, claiming the lives of 20 Pakistanis.
The spokesperson said India was continuously launching verbal attacks on Pakistan as part of its warmongering. The country will have to resolve the Kashmir issues in line with the resolution of United Nations and aspirations of Kashmiri people, he added.
He said Pakistan has been consistently pursuing the policy of dialogue for resolution of all long-standing issues.
He lamented Kabul is not providing any information about Pakistanis languishing in Afghan prisons despite repeated requests by Islamabad.
