Pakistan urges UN to bring culprits of IOK's Handwara massacre to justice

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office on Wednesday urged the United Nations to bring the culprits of Handwara massacre to justice.
FO Spokesperson Nafees Zakaria in a statement said Pakistan expresses solidarity and sympathy with families of the innocent unarmed Kashmiris who were brutally killed by Indian security forces on January 25, 1990.
The incident took in the town of Handwara in held-Kashmir where twenty five people were killed when the Indian paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) opened fire at peaceful protesters.
More than 10,000 people had gathered in Handwara and several cities of held-Kashmir to protest against the Gawkadal massacre. They attempted to go to Handwara chowk when the BSF opened fire leading to a bloodbath.
The Gawkadal incident took place four days earlier in Srinagar when 52 people were shot dead by the BSF. The death toll is believed to be as high as 280 and the incident has been described as one of the worst massacre in Kashmri history.
