Pakistan wants better ties with US, says Fatemi

WASHINGTON: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi has said that Pakistan wants better bilateral relations with the United States, ARY News reported.

He made the statement during an interview to an American newspaper.

Fatemi said that Pakistan paid a heavy price for making American mission successful in the region. He added that Donald Trump’s team is well-aware of Pakistan’s sacrifices in the war against terrorism.

“Pakistan assisted United States in evacuating Soviet Union from Afghanistan,” he said.

Fatemi also said that Pak-US ties improved during the tenure of PM Sharif. He added that Pakistan has had better ties with the United States as compared to the Russian Federation.

“Pakistan is still using American weapons. The Pak-US ties took a hit when the F-16 and military equipment deals were affected,” Fatemi said.

“We want to invite members of Trump administration to Pakistan so they can see which areas have been cleared from terrorists,” he said.

He added that there is no place for terrorists in Pakistan.

The PM’s assistant said that Russia is cooperating with Pakistan in the energy sector.
