ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal on Thursday said Pakistan would implement the action plan negotiated with the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to address concerns of the international community.

“We had announced in February last that Pakistan will implement the action plan after negotiation with the FATF, while remaining in the grey list,” he said adding that FATF would likely to announce this tomorrow. Addressing weekly news briefing in Islamabad, he ruled out any chance of placing Pakistan in FATF’s blacklist.

FATF placed Pakistan’s name on ‘grey list’ during FATF Plenary in Paris on Wednesday, this announcement was made late on Wednesday night.

The FATF is an inter-governmental body established in 1989 to combat money laundering, terrorist financing and other related threats to the integrity of the international financial system.

Pakistan has been initiating with numerous efforts in recent months so that its name is not added to a list of countries deemed non-compliant with anti-money laundering and terrorist financing regulations by the FATF. This decision may lead to economic pressures to pakistan.

To a query, Faisal regretted the European Union’s approach of ignoring gross human rights violations in Indian occupied Kashmir as was reported by UN Commissioner’s report on human rights. He called upon the EU countries to support UN report on gross violations of human rights in occupied Kashmir by the Indian forces.

To another query, he said Pakistan-US relations were on upward trajectory.
