Pakistan will not tolerate attacks on civilians, says PM Nawaz

ISLAMABAD: Terming Kashmir an unfinished agenda of the partition, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday said, “Pakistan would never abandon Kashmiris in their struggle for freedom” while chairing a meeting after Indian forces hit a passenger bus near Neelum valley on Wednesday and killed civilians.

“The world in general and India, in particular, should know that the Pakistani nation would never abandon their Kashmiri brethren and would continue to support them in their just and UN-mandated freedom struggle,” he said.

Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Director General (DG) ISI Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar, Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi and National Security Adviser Lieutenant General (retired) Nasser Khan Janjua briefed him on the situation along the line of control (LoC) particularly after India’s ceasefire violations in Dhudnial sector on November 23.

The meeting condemned the attack on a bus and reiterated to support the cause of Kashmir on political, diplomatic and moral grounds.

PM Nawaz and the participants of the meeting also paid rich tributes to the Pakistani soldiers who sacrificed their lives during skirmishes with Indian forces on Wednesday.

The premier added that attacks on civilians would not be tolerated in the future.

The high-level meeting termed the targeting of an ambulance carrying victims of the bus attack yesterday, as a blatant violation of the International Humanitarian Law.

It agreed that India was trying to divert the global attention from the grave human rights violations in the held valley of Kashmir by its forces.

PM Nawaz emphasised that the world must play its role to diffuse deteriorating security situation along the LoC.
