Almira becomes first Pakistani woman footballer to play in UK

Almira Rafeeque signed with UK’s Luton Town Football Club on a long term deal and will make her debut on against Stevenage FC on August 1, 2015 after considering contracts from Tottenham Hotspur and Stoke City F.C.

Rafeeque has said that it will be a new episode for the sport in the country especially for the women.

Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) official Fahad Khan stated that women football in Pakistan has played a prominent role in ending ethnic and religious biases.

“The women shown portraying the true image of the country in front of the world where women are getting equal chance like men to display their skills and wear the national flag on their sleeves”, he added.

Almira played for Young Rising Stars FC in Islamabad in 2008.
