LONDON: Imran Khan’s ex-wife Jemima Goldsmith has appeared to be pleased with Pakistan Supreme Court’s verdict disqualifying her former husband’s rival Nawaz Sharif as prime minister.
In a series of tweets, Jemima said no civilian Pakistani PM has ever completed its five-year term, but she adds: “InshaAllah the next one will.”

Rephrasing a popular political slogan used by opposition in Pakistan ‘Go Nawaz Go’, she called it “Gone Nawaz Gone’ – indicating expulsion of sitting PM after court orders.

She further said without naming any Imran’s rivals: “Good riddance! Still today spewing out those same, tired, old Zionist conspiracy theories that blighted my life in Pakistan 20 yrs ago.”

A five-judge Supreme Court bench has disqualified Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in a unanimous verdict in the Panamagate case, thus cutting short his third stint in power.
Soon after the SC judgement, the PM House issued a terse statement saying that Nawaz Sharif, despite having reservations on the SC’s verdict, has stepped down from his post as the premier.

Sharif served as prime minister twice in the 1990s before he himself was ousted in a 1999 coup leading to a decade of exile. He won a third term as prime minister in a 2013 election.
Sharif, 67, has always denied any wrongdoing and has dismissed the investigation into him as biased and inaccurate.
Sharif’s ouster will be seen as a major victory for PTI leader Imran Khan, a cricketer-turned-politician who led street protests to demand an investigation into Sharif.
Khan pounced on the leaking of the “Panama Papers”, which revealed Sharif’s family had bought posh London apartments through offshore companies.
The Supreme Court ruled in April there was insufficient evidence to remove Sharif from office – by a 2-3 verdict – but it ordered a probe by an investigative panel that included members of the military intelligence agencies.
