Parachinar shuts, mourns Friday’s terrorist attack victims

PARACHINAR: Local markets, trading centers and public places have been closed in Parachinar city, Kurran Agency on Saturday as the city mourns the deaths of car blast that claimed at least 23 lives and injured over 70 people yesterday, ARY News reported.

All shops and public places were closed in the aftermath of the blast throughout the city today. Funeral prayers of the blast victims offered amid high security.

According to the reports and eye witnesses accounts, an explosive-laden car was parked near Noor Market in Parachinar went off on Friday.

At least 23 people including a woman and two children were killed while 73 others were injured in the deadly car blast.

The blast damaged nearby buildings and vehicles. The attack comes after a wave of militant violence killed 130 people across Pakistan in February, unnerving citizens who had been emboldened by improving security and prompting a military crackdown.

Corps Commander Lieutenant General Nazir Ahmed Butt expressed condolences with the relatives of blast victims and visited the injured at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Peshawar.

The government has announced relief and financial package for the blast victims.

Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA), a splinter group of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has claimed the responsibility of the deadly terror attack.

Parachinar city in Kurram tribal region have a history of sectarian terrorism as on January 21st this year 21 people were died in another terrorist attack that was owned by Lashkar-i-Jhangvi Aalmi.
