‘APC’ agrees on forming steering committee to build CPEC consensus

Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah didn’t attend the meeting as reportedly he was given belated invitation for the meeting.

The steering committee will meet after every three months to review progress of the project.

Talking to media after the meeting, KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak said he was assured that reservations of the Khyber Pakhtonkhwa will be addressed.

“We back the CPEC project,”  he said, adding we are producing more electricity than consumption but not getting equal rights.

PTI’s Shah Mehmood Qureshi said the PM had assurance redressal of concerns regarding the corridor project.

He told the media that prime minister had agreed to constitute a committee in this regard.

Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq said the PM once again reiterated his old promises in the meeting. He said the overall meeting has been a success.

The first such ‘All Parties Conference’ on the CPEC was held on May 28, 2015.

The two provinces which have reservations over CPEC are Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtonkhwa.

The Conference has been called to build consensus among political parties and remove any concerns they have regarding the mega project.

The APC is being attended by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, Maulana Fazal-Ur-Rehman, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Aftab Sherpao, Akhtar Mengal, Mushahid Hussain, JI Chief Siraj-ul-Haq and others.

Chairman of the parliamentary committee on CPEC, Mushahid Hussain Syed has said that all the parties were agreed that CPEC would help in the progress and prosperity of the country.
