TOP NEWS

Parveen Shakir, a teacher, poet, columnist and civil servant words can never be enough to write about the queen of words. Parveen Shakir was born in 1952 and she started writing at the very early age with Beena as her pen name.1977, was the year when the lady of love published her first collection of poetry called ‘Khusbu’ fragrance that came out like a fire cracker in the world of poetry.

The woman who gave a subtle combination of classical traditions and modern sensitivity to Urdu poetry also became the first woman to use true feminism in a man dominated Urdu poetry by using word ‘Larki’ in her writings. Her collection is a reflection of  feminine perspective on love, romance, aloofness, separation and intimacy.

This prominent name of poetry died in a road accident when she was heading to her work in Islamabad on 26th December 1994. With her ended the era of Parveen Shakir but she became the inspiration of many budding female poets who followed her path by depicting feminine perspective in their poetry.

“Mar Bhi Jaon Tou Kahan Log Bhula Deinge Mujhe

Lafz Mere, Merey Honey Ki Gawahi Deinge”

“Woh to Khushbuu Hai Hawaaon Mein Bikhar Jaye Ga,

Masla Phool Ka Hai, Phool Kidar Jaaye Ga”

“Kaun Janey Naye Saal Main Tu Kisko Parhey

Tera Mayar Badalta Hai Nisaabon Ki Tarah”

“Uljhen ke keyi baar abhi lafz se mafhoom,

Saada hai bohat woh, na main asaan bohat hoon”

“Woh Tou Jaan Le Ke Bhi Waisa he Subuknaam Raha

Ishq Ke Baab Mai Sab Jurm Hamare Nikle”
