PCB chairman Shehryar Khan tenders resignation

LAHORE: Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board Shehryar Khan has tendered his resignation, saying his decision was influenced by ‘personal and health reasons’.

He confirmed this news to reporters in Lahore after meeting the PCB members in Lahore.

“I have taken the board in confidence and conveyed my decision that I will not continue after our mandate is ending on August 18,” Shaharyar said in an interaction with journalists after attending a meeting of board members.

“I will not continue after it as chairman or as in any other capacity and it’s my decision on the basis of personal and health reasons. I have also written to the Patron of PCB (who is Prime Minister) that I am ready to resign and whenever he deems reasonable he can accept it. And thereafter whatever the legal process constituted, allow it to exercised to bring in my successor.”

According to Cricinfo, Shehryar Khan was under constant pressure “to make way for PSL chairman Najam Sethi who’s been working towards becoming the PCB head for last year and a half”

Khan was appointed PCB chairman in August 2014. He previously served as the PCB chief in 2003, taking over with the board in turmoil. His tenure is remembered more for Pakistan’s infamous 2006 forfeit of the Oval Test after being penalised for ball tampering.

Khan at that time was criticised then for not handling the players with enough authority during the incident.
