According to an Indian news agency, Khan said that he called on Younis and had apologized to him on Monday.

The PCB Chairman went on to say, “Waqar might not have been able to produce desired results with the national team but he remains one of our top players and has big status in cricket. It was unfortunate that his confidential report was leaked to the media from the board.”

He added, “I apologized to Waqar and wished him the best after he informed me and had decided to resign as head coach. But the meeting was held in a good environment and I have promised him the board will hold an inquiry to find out how a confidential report was leaked.”

The former head coach’s contract was set to expire in May but sources reported that he was optimistic of coaching the side till Pakistan’s tour to England this year.

“But apparently it was conveyed to Waqar that the board has decided to act on the recommendations of the fact-finding committee and hunt for a new coach,” it was said.

The PCB Chairman went on to say that Younis made the decision of stepping down himself despite the fact that he would be losing Rs. 4.8 million, which the board would have paid him if he was removed before the ending of his contract period.

Waqar said that he was satisfied that PCB Chairman called him and listened to him patiently for what he had to say.

“He also apologized for the leakage of my report and said an inquiry would be held to find out who is responsible for this,” the former head coach.

The ex-pacer said that he would have stepped down at a later date but he wanted to make highlight an issue that would attract the attention of the board officials.

“I have said it if they want they can also use the dues payable to me (around six million rupees) now for improving the domestic cricket structure. At the end of the day it is all about improving things in Pakistan cricket and not about individuals,” Waqar added.

Waqar Younis resigned as the head coach of Pakistan cricket team following the side’s performance in the World T20.

Earlier, the former fast bowler had lashed out at Pakistan Cricket Board for leaking his report regarding the team’s show in the tournament.
