PCB hopeful to have Ajmal's action corrected before WC

Dr Sohail Saleem, senior General Manager PCB (medical and sports sciences) hoping that some good news on Ajmal’s front would be heard soon.

Sources quoted Dr. Sohail Saleem as saying “There is definite improvement in Saeed’s bowling action as the team of experts led by Saqlain Mushtaq is working in two sessions with him every day.”

Pioneer of ‘Doosra’ and former Pakistan offspinner Saqlain Mushtaq has been working with Ajmal to remodel his bowling action in accordance with the ICC’s new protocol for bowlers.

Dr. Sohail said that “Saqlain’s presence and advice has helped Saeed a lot and the target is to make him ready for a bowling action test before the World Cup.”

“Now Saqlain has been getting him back to basics and has first worked on his action while bowling orthodox offbreaks and will then move onto his action when bowling the doosra”, he added.

Ajmal bowling action complexity

Saeed Ajmal underwent biomechanical test at the National Cricket Centre in Brisbane on August 25.

Ajmal’s biomechanical testing report revealed that his average elbow extension is more than twice the permissible limit of 15 degrees.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) assessed Ajmal bowling different varieties from two different sides and found that none of the deliveries were close to the permissible limit.

According to the ICC report, Ajmal was found to flex his elbow up to an average of 42 degrees.
