Peshawar attack claimed lives of 132 children, 9 staffers: DG ISPR

Addressing journalists after the accomplishment of the rescue operation at Army Public School Peshawar, Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa told that the terrorist attack claimed lives of 132 innocent children and 9 staff members.

He said that the SSG commandos and military troops rescued many children who were hiding in the ventilators, in bathrooms and under the furniture.

“Terrorist entered from back side and stormed the auditorium of the school, where the children were busy attempting a paper. Militants opened fire at the children inside the auditorium”, he told.

A terrorist was killed at the door of school auditorium as a result of a face-off with the troops.

He told that all of the seven attackers had suicide vests strapped to their bodies.

“Officials received intercepts indicating that the miscreants were solely aimed at killing the innocent children”, Bajwa told. “They were not intended to take anyone into hostage”.

He however said that the intercepts could not be made public due to security concerns.

Responding to a question, he said that some of the terrorists were heard speaking Arabic and their identities are being ascertained.
