KARACHI: The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Sunday raised its baggage fees, ARY News reported.

Starting April 1, PIA has fixed charges of Rs5, 000 on extra luggage amounting to more than 20 kilograms on domestic flights, which is nearly double as compared to private airlines.

Earlier, the PIA was charging Rs 100/kilogram over extra luggage but now it has fixed Rupees 250 for the same.

The new charges come as fuel costs surge, a PIA spokesperson said.

Last month, the Pakistan International Airline (PIA) had approved a new policy for ground jobs of cabin crew.

PIA Chief Executive Officer Air Marshal Arshad Malik gave approval for the new policy. The policy would be applicable for permanent and contractual employees, read the notification issued in this regard.

Application could only be submitted for ground service on completion of 10 years of service.

The airline management would itself decide to appoint cabin crew in any department. Following approval of the management for ground job, the employee would not be allowed for flight service.

“Employees would be bound to perform the duty and shift assigned to them on ground service by the administration of the PIA,” said the notification.
