LAHORE: Three of the five Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) lawmakers, who had announced resignations at Khatm-e-Nabuwwat conference in Faisalabad, sent their resignations to Speaker of the Punjab Assembly on Tuesday, ARY News reported.
Those who tendered resignations from the membership of the provincial assembly included Ghulam Nizamuddin Sialvi, Muhammad Khan Baloch and Maulana Rehmatullah.
Three MPAs and two MNAs – Ghulam Bibi Bharwana from Jhang and Dr Nisar Ahmed Jutt from Faisalabad – had announced resignations at the moot organized by Pir Sialvi at Faisalabad’s Dhobi Ground on December 10.
The PML-N lawmakers announced to resign over the government’s unwillingness to seek resignation from Law Minister Rana Sanaullah.
Pir Sialvi had earlier claimed that around 50 lawmakers would join forces with him at the Khatm-i-Nabuwwat conference to press the government to sack Sanaullah.
In his brief address to participants of the conference, Pir Sialvi had said he was not a political person and the agenda of calling this conference solely revolved around finality of the Prophethood (Khatm-e-Nabuwwat).
“As firm believers of Khatm-e-Nabuwwat, we have gathered here with no intention to solicit support for elections or a political agenda,” Sialvi said.
He said the country was achieved in the name of Islam but ‘Law of Shariah’ (Nizam-e-Mustafa) has been set aside.
Earlier, a spokesperson for Sial Sharif shrine had claimed participation of numerous caretakers of shrines to call for immediate resignation of the Punjab law minister.
The spokesperson also vowed to step up their campaign over non-fulfillment of their key demand.
