PM Abbasi to meet Nawaz Sharif ahead of Hudaibya case hearing

LAHORE: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Sunday held key meetings Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif ahead of Hudaibya Paper Mills case reopening.

PM Abbasi arrived in the provincial capital where he was received by Punjab Chief Minister. Later, both held a meeting and discussed political situation and other matters. The Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) leaders held a lengthy discussion at the residence of National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq over the reopening of the case by the Supreme Court.

PM Abbasi was also expected with meet with his predecessor and PML-N president Nawaz Sharif, and are expected to discuss the political situation of the country, besides exchanging views on reopening of another case against the Sharif family members.

The duo is also expected to contemplate amendments in the constitution to device a strategy to tackle the Hudaibya case, sources said.

Earlier today, the incumbent PM Abbasi reached Lahore from Islamabad to meet ousted premier Sharif in Jati Umra. This would be their second meeting within a week.

Earlier this week, PM Abbasi had called on Sharif at Punjab House in Islamabad where the duo discussed the party affairs and matters pertaining to the government.

The meeting was chaired by Sharif to confer with confidantes on infighting and fragmentation within the party.

Last month, PM Abbasi had dispelled media reports of internal rifts over taking up the reins of party after ex-PM Sharif’s ouster in Supreme Court landmark verdict on July 28.

He visited London to hold a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, brother of ex-PM Nawaz Sharif, who said to have a disagreement with the elder brother over the taking the helm of party, sources claimed.

However, PM Abbasi rejected such reports and asserted that he was on an official visit while talking to journalists.

The bond of love between Shehbaz and Nawaz had not weakened, PM Abbasi further claimed.
