PM Abbasi held productive meetings with world leaders: FO

NEW YORK: Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakaria on Thursday said that Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi held productive meetings with world leaders on the sidelines of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

In a statement, the spokesperson said that PM Abbasi’s address to the UN General Assembly in scheduled today (Thursday), which will be his debut into the highest international diplomacy after being sworn in as the premier last month.

“Meeting between the prime ministers of Pakistan-India PMs is not in the schedule,” he confirmed

Deploring arrests of Kashmiri leaders, the FO spokesman said that Indian forces martyred four more innocent citizens.

He demanded that the international community needs to take notice of the atrocities.

The statement had unnecessary references to Pakistan, said Zakaria, adding that India is involved in spreading terrorism in neighbouring countries and occupied Kashmir.

Moreover, Zakaria said that Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa will leave for Moscow in the first week of October.

“The visit is a continuation of high-level contact and a reflection of wish to improve bilateral ties,” he further said in the statement, adding that the army chief’s visit to Russia will contribute to defence cooperation between the two countries.

Expressing his dismay over recent joint statement by Japan and India, he said that last week’s joint statement by Japan and India was disappointing.

It is worth mentioning here that PM Abbasi arrived in New York to lead the country’s delegation to the 72nd session of the UNGA and meet world leaders On Sept 19.
