The leaders of all major political parties have been invited by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to the moot today where they will be briefed over Pak-China Economic Corridor- the keystone Chinese investment project in Pakistan.
The project involves energy and infrastructure projects linking the neighboring countries’ economies and creating an “economic corridor” between Pakistan’s Gwadar port and Kashgar in China’s western Xinjiang region.
The developmental project was signed by Chinese President Xi Jinping during his visit to Pakistan last month.
The political parties have expressed their reservations over the route of the corridor.
Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, whose party rules Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has opposed any change in the route of the corridor and said it would be an injustice to the people of KP and Balochistan provinces.
Meanwhile, Balochistan’s planning and development minister Hamid Khan Achakzai has said that he will oppose the project as it is “unfair to his province”.
Former member of Balochistan MPA Jaffar Khan Manokhel claimed that change in the route is meant to give maximum benefit to Punjab, which is already considered the privileged province.
