PM, chief executive Hong Kong discuss bilateral ties, future cooperation

HONG KONG: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Wednesday met the Chief Executive Hong Kong Leung Chun-Ying and discussed the bilateral ties and ways to further enhance the cooperation in multiple spheres.

The prime minister arrived here Tuesday on a three-day visit from Hangzhou city. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the matters of mutual interest and bilateral relations between Pakistan and Hong Kong.

Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Sharif said that Pakistan and Hong Kong enjoyed brotherly relations. He stressed that the cooperation between the two countries in different sectors must be enhanced.

Prime Minister Sharif said that several companies of Hong Kong had their permanent offices in Pakistan which testified their trust in the country. He said that China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will enable traders to transport their goods to international markets through Gwadar.

The Prime Minister said that Pakistan’s trade policies provide ample opportunities to the investors of Hong Kong, and that businessmen from Hong Kong must take active part in CPEC which is for the mutual benefits of the two nations.

He was accompanied by Minister for Commerce Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan, Ambassador of Pakistan to China Masood Khalid, Chairman Board of Investment Miftah Ismail and others.

Chief Executive of Hong Kong said that Pakistan and Hong Kong have strong relations based on history. He said that the two countries are cooperating with each other in different sectors. He said that the economic cooperation needs to be enhanced between Pakistan and Hong Kong.

Meeting with HK Chief Executive- elect

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif met Hong Kong Chief Executive-elect Mrs Carrie Lam who will assume office on July 1, 2017. He Mrs Carrie Lam on her victory in elections and becoming the First Lady Chief Executive of Hong Kong.

PM Sharif appreciated the contributions of Mrs Lam to maintain the position of Hong Kong as global leader in financial services and trade. He also apprised her on the economic turnaround of Pakistan.

Mrs Carrie Lam said that Pakistan and Hong Kong have deep relationship based on people to people contacts. She hoped that the relationship between Hong Kong and Pakistan will get stronger in future.
