ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has called for evolving a mechanism for providing drugs to the poor at affordable prices and keep the pharmaceutical sector commercially viable.

He was talking to a delegation of Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Association in Islamabad on Monday.

The delegation assured the prime minister that an essential drug pricing policy will be announced soon. The Prime Minister instructed the Drug Regulatory Authority to make effective policies in this regard.

The Prime Minister also directed to consider a proposal to establish a Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council to facilitate exports and securing international recognition for Pakistani pharmaceutical products.

The PM featured the significance of value, guidelines, efficiency and advancement in advancing the pharmaceutical segment, and taught the Drug Regulatory Authority to make successful approaches in such manner.
