PM Imran Khan arrives in Tehran, receives warm welcome

TEHRAN: Prime Minister Imran Khan on late Sunday arrived in Tehran on his two-day official visit to hold talks with Iranian leadership on bilateral and regional issues.

Upon his arrival, PM Imran Khan was warmly welcomed by Iranian Health Minister Dr Saeed Reza at Tehran International Airport. A smartly turned out contingent presented a static salute to the prime minister.

Later, Iranian Health Minister Dr Saeed Reza held meeting with the prime minister. During the meeting, matters of mutual interests, bilateral ties, regional and international issues and other matters were discussed.

 He would call on Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Seyyed Ali Khamenei, besides holding in-depth talks with Iranian President Dr. Hassan Rouhani today (Monday). The Prime Minister will also meet Pakistani and Iranian business community during his visit.

Earlier, during his stay in Mashhad, the Prime Minister visited the shrine of Imam Reza (AS), and offered Dua and Nawafil. He also held a meeting with Custodian of the Holy Shrine Ahmad Marvi besides visiting the Museum of Holy Quran situated in the premises of the Shrine.

On his arrival in Mashhad, the prime minister was received by Governor General Khorasan-e-Razavi province Ali Reza Razm Hussaini.

He was accompanied by Minister for Human Rights Dr. Shireen Mazari, Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi, Adviser to PM on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood, Special Assistant to PM (SAPM) on Overseas Pakistanis Sayed Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari, SAPM on National Health Services Dr. Zafarullah Mirza and SAPM on Petroleum Nadeem Baber.

The visit comes days after the incident of Makran Coastal Highway, where 14 personnel of security forces were martyred by terrorists who according to Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi came from Iran.

PM Khan will likely discuss the matter with Iranian officials during his visit of Tehran.

Pakistan’s relations with Iran are marked by close historic and cultural linkages and strong people to people exchanges.

Pakistan and Iran are also members of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The prime minister’s visit to Iran will further the close bilateral relationship between the two countries.
