The Karakoram Highway has been rebuilt to restore the portion of the road that had submerged causing creation of Attabad Lake due to landsliding in January 2010.
The seven-kilometer long five tunnels are part of 24-kilometer long portion of the reconstructed Karakorum Highway which has been built with the collaboration of China.
Two big bridges and 78 small bridges have also been constructed on the rebuilt road.
The Prime Minister was earlier briefed on the project that has been completed by National Highway Authority with the assistance from China Road and Bridge Corporation.
Minister for Kashmir Affairs Barjees Tahir, Gilgit-Baltistan Governor, Chief Minister, and Chinese ambassador were present in the briefing.
