PM Nawaz to monitor progress of Diamer-Bhasha Dam project itself

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting in Islamabad on Thursday and announced to monitor the progress of Diamer-Bhasha Dam project itself, ARY News
During the meeting PM Nawaz said that Diamer-Bhasha Dam will help to overcome energy crisis and wil prove an economic milestone for Pakistan.
Reviewing progress of the project, Nawaz Sharif said the project will cater to energy requirements and serve as a source of development for Gilgit-Baltistan.
He said that local residents will be given preference for the jobs in the ongoing project.
The Minister also directed to ensure security of foreign consultants working on the project.
Speaking on the occasion, He was informed that 100 kilometers (km) of the Karakoram Highway will be affected with construction of Diamer-Bhasha Dam and an alternate route stretching 142km will be built.
The Prime Minister was briefed that the project costing $13.87 billion will also extend life of Tarbela reservoir by 35 years by blocking the sediments upstream. Three model villages will be developed for resettlement of 4,228 affected households.
PM Nawaz Sharif was briefed that the project will be completed in 8-year and will allow Tarbela Dam to store water for 35 years.
Mian Nawaz Sharif advised Chairman Wapda to visit the project and to present him complete report.
