PM performs ground-breaking of Islamabad metro bus section


ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday performed the ground breaking of Islamabad metro bus link to be constructed between Peshawar Morr to New Islamabad International Airport.

Addressing media after the ceremony, the prime minister said the government believes in the speedy completion of development projects without any compromise on quality. He regretted delays in various projects in the past and said the government provided the necessary resources to revive and complete these projects.

PM Sharif pointed out that modern infrastructure including airports, highways, motorways and transport system are the hallmark of a dignified nation. He said these projects are vital for economic growth and attract investment in the country. The modern road infrastructure also facilitates to peasants to transport their products to the markets.

Referring to the metro bus project, the prime minister said it was not part of the new Islamabad airport project, but was included to facilitate the access of commuters to and from the airport. He said the metro bus project will be completed with the new airport simultaneously.

PM Sharif was briefed about the metro bus project by chairman National Highway Authority (NHA) who apprised that all contractors are mobilised on all four phases of the project. He directed that motorway like quality should be ensured in the construction of the road.

The metro bus link will be completed by NHA in four phases with a total length of 25.6 kilometer, nine bus stations, twelve bridges and eleven underpasses.

Inspection of new Islamabad airport

PM Sharif also inspected the ongoing pace of work at the new Islamabad airport which will be completed by August 14.

Around ninety-five percent work on the terminal building has been completed with a capacity to handle 4500 passengers. It also includes fifteen state-of-the-art aircraft docking stations, while international standard air traffic control system is being installed at the airport.
