A special accountability court judge Sohail Nasir, in the light of high court order, announced the verdict acquitting Sharif brothers and others by rejecting a petition to reopen the Ittefaq Foundry reference.

A petition by the Sharifs was sub-judice in the high court against above mentioned reference.

The counsel of Sharif brothers took the stance that the reference was false, baseless and designed for revenge-taking.

He argued that the reference is not only non-admissible but it should also be discarded on legal basis.

Yesterday, the accountability court had received the record copy of high court’s verdict of discarding the reference.

It was then that today the accountability court judge Sohail Nasir turned down the petition filed by chairman NAB and acquitted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif, their late father and his brother, and other business associates.
