KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Sunday said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should be held accountable for keeping national security on risk in the handling of the Dawnleaks issue.

The PTI chairman, addressing the ‘Huqooq-e-Karachi’ rally, reiterated that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had lost moral authority to lead the nation and should resign.

“The Supreme Court had rejected the Qatari letter,” he said referring to the Panama Case verdict. This proves that Sharif lied to the court, and cannot be the leader of the nation. “A liar cannot be out leader.”

“I am facing the ‘godfather’ which the Supreme Court has dubbed the biggest mafia in Pakistan,” he said. “Now the godfather has been handed over to a Joint Investigation team.”

He accused that since the last thirty years, Nawaz Sharif and his brother had bribed politicians, opponents, judges, police and everyone in their path, and even attempted to bribe him with a Rs10 billion offer.

Will fight for rights of Karachi

The PTI chairman said that Karachi had always been on the forefront of political movements, but is still facing a myriad of civic problems and lack of basic amenities.

“Karachi is the city where people used to raise voice against injustice before any other place,” he said recalling the peaceful past and the apathetic current situation of the city.

“I had promised to visit Karachi whenever I get the opportunity,” he said. “If we visit Karachi at any other time, we will still receive the same love and affection.”

He questioned why the people of Karachi had not risen for their rights earlier, as it faced a myriad of problems despite contributing over sixty percent revenue to the nation.

“I will fight with the residents of Karachi for their rights,” he vowed.

PPP, PML-N failed

He said the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) have taken turns at political power since last six terms but are unable to bring an independent police system.

Highlighting the performance of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he said that even mayor of Karachi is demanding local government system like KP, while Inspector General Sindh has also expressed desire to receive right under the Police Act in KP.

“A powerful local government system is the need of Karachi,” he said.

He said money which should have used on Karachi and Sindh is being laundering in Dubai, depriving the people of development expenditure to solve their problems.

He also criticised Nawaz Sharif for mocking the participation of women in politics, saying that Quaid-e-Azam’s sister lead the women’s movement during the creation of Pakistan.
