PM urges to work towards enhancing bilateral trade with Belarus

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday stressed upon the need to boost the business potential between Pakistan and Belarus while urging to work towards improving bilateral trade volume from existing $50 million to $1 billion in the coming four years.

“We need to encourage joint ventures and business-to-business contacts in the areas of textiles, agricultural equipment and products, heavy machinery, pharmaceuticals, and automotives,” said the prime minister at his official residence during a one-on-one meeting with the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.

The premier said that overall security situation in Pakistan has greatly improved, paving the way for greater than before economic and investment opportunities.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif termed the president’s visit “reflective of growing friendship and bilateral ties”.

“I am very pleased to note that our bilateral relationship is expanding in diverse areas. We need to maintain this momentum,” PM Nawaz said.

Pakistan and Belarus had signed more than 50 agreements and memorandums of understandings (MoUs) in the last 16 months and the prime minister hoped that both sides would sign more accords in the future too.

The President of Belarus thanked the prime minister for a warm welcome he received in Pakistan.

He said that Belarus was eager to increase business and political cooperation with Pakistan in various fields and sectors.
