PM asks Nehal Hashmi to resign over threatening speech

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Wednesday suspended membership of Senator Nehal Hashmi after the party leader gave a threatening statement and hurled open threats to those conducting accountability of the premier and his family, ARY News reported.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif too summoned Hashmi to the PM House and expressed immense displeasure of his statement. The premier has also asked Hashmi to tender his resignation from the Senate.

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Dr. Asif Kirmani  earlier confirmed that a show cause notice has been issued to Hashmi and disciplinary action would be taken against him.

The prime minister had disassociated himself from the threatening statement given by Hashmi while seeking an explanation from him.

Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb has said that PML-N believes in the supremacy of the constitution and law.

The Minister of State asserted that the Prime Minister strongly believes in the accountability. “Remarks of Nehal Hashmi are his personal opinion. The statement should not be linked with the party”, she said.

It should be remembered that PML-N leader Nehal Hashmi hurled ‘open threats’ to those making Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif accountable in the face of Panama leaks scandal.

In a video going rounds on the social media, Hashmi was seen warning opponents and ‘some honorable officials associated with top institutions’ of dire consequences if they continued with the accountability of PM Sharif.

” Currently you are on service, but tomorrow you will retire and we will make your life miserable,” Hashmi was heard addressing some workers at an event.
