SUKKUR: Leader of the opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah said on Saturday that the PML-N’s stubborn refusal to accept the Supreme Court ruling in the Panama Papers, would be of no service.

The party will have to accept the verdict, the opposition leader Shah was talking with media in Sukkur on Saturday.

A day before, a five-member bench of the Supreme Court had rejected the Sharif family’s review petitions against the July 28 verdict in the Panama Papers case, bringing an end to the legal battle that started in September last year.

On July 28, the apex court had disqualified former prime minister Nawaz Sharif for concealing his salary from his son’s Dubai based company and ordered filing of graft references against him and members of his family in the wake of a report of the Panama joint investigation team.

Since the pronouncement of the judgment, the ruling party had been vociferously criticizing it in public.

Commenting on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) efforts to garner support of opposition parties to get new leader of the opposition elected, he said it had democratic right to bring in the opposition leader of its choice.

Khursheed shah said it was a welcome development that PTI and MQM were sorting out their difference and coming closer to each other. PTI was also in touch with Jamaat-e-Islami and other parties, but no name for the slot of opposition leader had been proposed as yet, he added.
