CDA move against slums in Islamabad sparks protest

The anti-encroachment team led by SSP Islamabad conducted an operation in Sector I-11 of the city – only to see panic and tension in the area in shape of citizens-police clash.

The CDA said the dwellers were served with notices couple of times, but they didn’t pay heed.

The authority said at least 800 illegal settlements were there in the area, which are to be razed.

The anti-encroachment team used bulldozers to flatten illegal settlements. As residents put up resistance, police also resorted to baton-charge and also used water cannons to disperse the protesters.

Women pelted police with stones from the rooftop of their houses, thus deteriorating law and order situation.
