ISLAMABAD: The sword of Damocles hangs over at least 200 political leaders as the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has started preparing list of the leaders to be disqualified, ARY News reported.

Sources said hundreds of election candidates had failed to submit their tax returns. The candidates have been issued a final notice for submission of their returns.

“Those who failed to submit their details will stand disqualified for the next election,” they said.

The ECP has given deadline of April 22 for submission of returns on their expenditures; otherwise they would be fined Rs0.1 million.

On April 10, the ECP had disqualified a member of Balochistan Assembly, associated with the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), for possessing a fake degree.

A three-member bench of the commission, headed by Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Sardar Muhammad Raza, gave this verdict.

Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) leader Muhammad Khan had won election from Balochistan Assembly constituency PB-4 Loralai.

He had defeated Maulvi Faiz Ullah of Muttahidda Majlis-i-Ammal Pakistan who stood second and independent candidate Shams Ud Din Wald Qamar Ud Din who grabbed third position.

Last year in Oct, the Supreme Court had declared Balochistan Awami Party leader Abdul Rauf Rind’s victory from a provincial assembly constituency, PB-47, void.
