“Ainak Wala Jin” creator A. Hameed’s 4th death anniversary today

Abdul Hameed remains to this day one of the most celebrated novelists Pakistan has ever produced. With over 200 novels to his credit, he remains to this day the most popularly read children’s author of Pakistan. Ainak Wala Jinn, the popular televisions series from the 90s was also his brainchild, as it was Hameed who penned it.

Hameed was born in Amritsar in 1928 and was of those Muslims who migrated to Pakistan, at the time of partition. Abdul Hameed, after completing his secondary education in Pakistan, joined Radio Pakistan as assistant script editor. He later joined the Voice of America radio network.

Though short stories was his domain and his forte, Abdul Hameed did not dabble with children’s stories from the very start. His first collection of short stories titled Manzil Manzil was generally well received and brought him respect and acknowledgment as a romantic short story writer. Abdul Hameed also wrote columns for newspapers.

His books include Lahore Lahore Aye, Atun Maut Ke Darwaze Par, Ehram-e-Misr Se Farar and Miti Ki Mona Lisa. Ambar Naag Maria, Maria series and Commando series were some of his acclaimed books series. Mirza Ghalib, Dastango Ashfaq Ahmad and Mirza Ghalib Lahore Main include some of his most popular works.

Abdul Hameed passed away at the age of 83 on April 29, 2011. His novels and short stories are still popular till this day. Abdul Hameed, the celebrated, veteran writer passed away and left behind a towering legacy which remains unmatched by any literary entity.
