Portuguese footballer Eusébio dies at the age of 71

LISBON: The top scorer of World Cup 1966, the legendary Portuguese footballer Eusébio died at the age of 71 after reportedly suffering a heart attack at his home in Lisbon, ARY News reported.

Eusébio, 71, who led his country to the semi-final of World cup 1966, which they lost 2-1 to England was born in Mozambique, played for Portugal, becoming the first black African global soccer star.

He had been in poor health for some time and was hospitalized during Euro 2012 after suffering a heart scare in Poland.

Eusébio won 64 caps for Portugal and the European Cup with Benfica in 1962, but was also feted as black Africa's first international football star.
