LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Sunday said that people from south Punjab will be freed from the ‘throne of Raiwind’ in the next elections, ARY News reported.

Addressing workers from south Punjab, the PPP chairman said that the days of deprivation for the people of the region were over and they should get ready for the dawn of development, prosperity and equal opportunities.

“PPP has great plans for the poverty ridden people of South Punjab, and will emancipate them from Takht-e-Raiwind in next elections,” he said.

Bilawal said that it was disheartening to know that literacy rate in South Punjab was just twelve percent, along with a meager share in the development budget.

Earlier, Bilawal interviewed party candidates for different districts of south Punjab including Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, and Lodhran.

He said that killers of a PPP worker were roaming around free in Haroonabad area, and the Police was not arresting them due to influence of the Punjab government.

He was referring to the attack on PPP leader Shaukat Basra who was injured in gun attack in Bhawalnagar in February, while his personal guard was killed in the incident.

Before conducting the interview, Bilawal had met the family and children of Imtiaz Ahmed who was killed in the attack on Basra in the Haroonabad area after they were going to an election rally.

He said the Punjab government announced fair investigations in the incident but appears to complicit with those behind the killing.
