KARACHI: Under-arrest former Sindh information minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Monday challenged his arrest by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
The PPP leader along with twelve other suspects were arrested outside the Sindh High Court on Oct 23 after the court revoked their bails in a case related to massive corruption in the provincial information department.
Questioning his arrest by the NAB, Memon’s lawyer argued that his client was nabbed without arrest warrants, thus taking him into custody amounted to keeping him in illegal confinement.
Defending the arrest of the PPP leader, NAB prosecutor argued that the court had earlier issued warrants for his arrest, which were later suspended by the high court which approved bail for him, but with the rejection of the bail, the warrants came into effect.
Meanwhile, Memon’s lawyer requested the accountability court to direct jail authorities to provide B class facilities to the former provincial minister and other suspects.
The Judge reserved his verdict on the plea for provision of B class facilities and is expected to announce the verdict later in the day.
Sharjeel Memon, who had returned to Pakistan in March this year after concluding his two-year long self-imposed exile, is facing several charges of misappropriation and corruption.

Another case related to his alleged role in getting the state land allotted and adjusted in 43 Dehs at throwaway prices for a property developer, depriving the public exchequer of billions of rupees in revenue.
