Dr. Hussain is facing charges of terror financing and corruption.

A close aide of former president Asif Ali Zardari has also confessed to his role in corruption and terror financing in a statement recorded before the judicial magistrate court today.

The former minister for petroleum recorded the confessional statement under section 164 of the anti-terrorism act.

He is charged for aiding and providing medical treatment to terrorists at his hospital. He is also facing three corruption references in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

A key witness in the case, Dr Yousuf Sattar, also recorded his statement before the court. He maintained that terrorists were provided medical aid at Ziauddin Hospital in Karachi on directives of Dr. Asim Hussain.

The bureau is currently investigating three new corruption cases against Dr Hussain. These include: illegal affiliation of medical colleges with Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and issuance of licences for dozens of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations.

Dr Hussain’s 90 day-detention ended on Nov 26 and he was produced in a court on that day for hearing. The court had subsequently ordered another four-day custody of Dr. Hussain to police.
