President Alvi calls for use of sign language in news bulletin, TV shows

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi along with the first lady Samina Alvi visited the National Library of Pakistan on Thursday.

Minister for Federal Education, Professional Training and National Heritage Shafqat Mahmood welcomed the president on his arrival. The president visited various sections of the library.

President Alvi had brief discussion with the people with special needs during his visit to the library’s section “Gosha-e-Noor.” He appreciated the administration of the library for establishing counters and dedicated computers with other facilities for such people.

He asked the minister to ensure provision of facilities to special people. He also said that he would recommend the use of sign language in news bulletin and TV programmes for the benefit of the people with hearing disability.

The president also visited different corners established under MoUs with the libraries of the other countries including Tajikistan, Turkey, Belarus, Azerbaijan, USA, Cuba and Bulgaria. He also witnessed the digitalization of rare and historic books and newspapers in the archive section of the library and appreciated this effort to preserve the history.

He also inaugurated the ‘Presidential Corner’ in the Library.
