Prices of pulses increase by up to 15pc after floods

KARACHI: Prices of all pulses have increased in the wholesale market after flash floods triggered by heavy rains damaged crops across the country, ARY News reported on Thursday.
According to details, the prices of pulses have increased by 10 to 15 percent in the wholesale market as flash floods damaged crops in Sindh, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In a statement, Chairman Wholesale Grocers pointed out that rising US dollar was another factor behind the increase in prices as most of the pulses are imported.
The prices of various pulses have increased up to Rs40 per kg. The price of black gram and yellow split has been increased by Rs 40 per kg, taking up the price to Rs280 per kg and Rs175 per kg, respectively.
Meanwhile, the prices of chickpea lentils increased up to Rs220 after an increase of Rs25. Moreover, the price of black gram has increased by Rs 50 to Rs 200, while the price of white gram increased to Rs 250 per kg.

It is pertinent to mention here that the flour mills association hiked the flour prices in wholesale market where the prices have soared to Rs90 per kilogram after an increase of Rs10 per kilogram.
The mill owners warned that the prices of flour could reach Rs200 per kilogram and demanded of the government to allow wheat import to avoid the situation.
