Princess Anne steps in late Queen Elizabeth’s footsteps with new role

Princess Anne has stepped in her late mother, Queen Elizabeth II’s footsteps with a special new role.

The Princess Royal became a patron of Glasgow Caledonian University as part of celebrations commemorating its founding institutions.

This patronage was previously held by none other than Princess Anne’s beloved late mother as she was patron of the Glasgow and West of Scotland College of Domestic Science, whixh later became Glasgow Caledonian University.

“It is a great honour for Glasgow Caledonian to have the Princess Royal as patron for our university and to renew our long-standing royal connection,” the principal, Prof Steve Decent, said in a statement, as per BBC.

He continued, “This is particularly poignant as we approach the 150th anniversary year of one of our founding institutions.

“We look forward to discussing areas of keen mutual interest and exploring future opportunities for delivering great societal benefit with Her Royal Highness as patron,” Steve gushed.

The professor further added, “We offer our sincere thanks to the Princess Royal for agreeing to be our patron, and the university very much looks forward to welcoming Her Royal Highness to see our work first hand in the time ahead.”

Queen Elizabeth II became patron of the former college in 1944 as a princess and renewed her patronage after her accession to the throne in 1952.
