The controversial bill passed by the parliament was recently signed into an act of law by the President.
In his petition, Dasti, an independent lawmaker elected from southern Punjab, has called the law violating the fundamental human rights.
The petitioner said that the law grants unlimited powers to the law enforcement officials and could be used against political opponents.
The Protection of Pakistan Act violates the fundamental human rights and the constitution, petitioner said.
The law will remain in force for two years.
Under the law a suspect can be kept in detention for 60 days. The law also empowers a grade-15 officer to open fire over a suspect after issuing warning.
