Protest outside CM House against Zaki’s killing ends peacefully

The heirs had called a sit-in in front of the CM House. Ms Zaki had said they would not accept an FIR that would be registered against their will. She wanted names of the accused nominated by them to be mentioned in the FIR.

Funeral prayer of the victim was offered in front of the CM House and then the body was taken to be laid to rest. A case in this regard has been registered in Sir Syed police station.

Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) and Civil Society members gave protocol to the body in the form of a procession carrying black triangular flags. Meanwhile, all the routes to the CM House had been closed by placing containers on them.

Unknown assailants shot dead the civil society activist on Saturday night when he was dining at a restaurent in the north area of Karachi when four suspects riding motorbikes sprayed him with bullets.

The victim died on the spot, while two other persons also sustained critical injuries in the attack.

Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Sial had taken notice of the incident and sought report from police high-ups within 48 hours.

Zaki’s Twitter profile describes he was the former head of current affairs for a private news channel, where he looked after Infotainment and religious programming.

He had also registered a complaint along with other rights activists against Lal Masjid cleric Mualna Abdul Aziz.

In his complaint, Zaki had stated that Maulana Aziz and Jamia Hafsa-Lal Masjid released a video message in which he attempted to incite sectarian hatred and violence against Shias by blaming them for leading the civil society campaign against him.

Zardari, Imran condemn Khurram Zaki’s killing

Former president Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan condemned the killing of Khurram Zaki, a prominent journalist and human rights activist.

Imran Khan said this was a shameful reflection of the state of law and order and writ of the government.

While, Zardari demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and said he equally shared grief of the family.

Farooq Sattar not allowed speech

Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Farooq Sattar was not allowed to make speech by participants of the funeral prayer.

As soon as Farooq Sattar stood upon a container to address the participants, they started chanting ‘killer’ ‘killer’.

MQM leaders Amir Khan and Ali Raza Abidi were also present on the occasion.
