Earlier this month, Afridi had leveled allegations of corruption against KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and finance minister Muzafar Saeed saying that he has solid evidence against their corrupt practices.

He also warned to stage a sit-in outside the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ehtesaab Commission (KPEC) offices and demand action them. He alleged that KPEC was set up to victimise political rivals. He also criticised Imran Khan and Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Sirajul Haq for leniency and not taking action against them.

Afridi was arrested by KPEC on the charges of corruption and misuse of authority allowing illegal mining in the province. He was released in October 2016 after spending fifteen months in prison.
